Call for Papers: FORUM summer 2024
Posted on 31/01/2024
Contributions are invited for the Summer 2024 number of FORUM (66/2) for which the copy date is Monday 15 April 2024
To chime with the publication of Forum’s latest e-book, Renewing public education: proposals for an inclusive, democratic and joyful system, we invite articles which would bolster such a system practically and theoretically. What needs saying to the Education Secretary, or their successor in an incoming government, about promoting inclusive, democratic and joyful education?
Contributors might describe or advocate examples of more inclusive, more democratic and/or more joyful pedagogy. They might consider how the current assessment strait-jacket can be, or is being, loosened or perhaps thrown off. They might draw attention to curricular experiments and advances which are planned or under way to vary and leaven the ‘knowledge-rich’ diet. What can be done to shed light on the workings of murky MATs in England? Or to replace academies? How can discussions of the purposes of formal education gain traction, and why is it important that they do? What is it like to experience the current system as a teacher or a member of school leadership, or as a student or pupil, or a parent or governor? Is it, after all, so joyless? We have deliberately cast a broad net for this Call.
FORUM welcomes writing which is heart-felt as well as thought-through. There’s no set length for a FORUM article. Although many weigh in at about 4000 words, many are shorter. Nor is there a set way of writing an article. We certainly welcome academic papers, but personal reflections, critically-alert consideration of issues and experiences, and informed discursive writing are welcome too, as are texts written by more than one person.
If you have an idea for an article, or would like to discuss the possibility of contributing, please email Patrick Yarker. The deadline by which to send an article for the Summer 2024 number of FORUM is Monday 15 April, but please contact Patrick beforehand to let him know you are sending in a text.
We look forward to hearing from you.
