Wendy Wheeler was Professor Emeritus of English Literature and Cultural Inquiry at London Metropolitan University. She was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh, and a Visiting Professor on the Literature and Environment programme at the University of Oregon. She was also a Visiting Professor at Goldsmiths College, University of London and in the School of Art, Environment and Cultural Studies at RMIT University in Melbourne Australia where she was the London member of the Art, Ecology, Globalisation and the Interpretation of Science research group.
Her research, on biosemiotics and culture, was interdisciplinary and brought together semiotic biology, cultural and literary theory, ecocriticism and the Environmental Humanities.
She was on the Editorial Boards of Green Letters: Studies in Ecocriticism and the journal Biosemiotics. She was an Editor and Editorial Board member of New Formations. She was a Consulting Editor on Cybernetics and Human Knowing, and a member of the International Advisory Board of of PAN: Philosophy, Activism, Nature. She was the author of four books and more than 45 journal articles and chapters in edited collections.
