Volume 7 contains the works Marx and Engels wrote between March and November 1848. It is the first of three volumes (numbers 7 to 9) that gather together in English material that reflects their activities during the revolutionary years 1848-1849. The bulk of Volume 7 consists of articles by Marx and Engels published in the Neue Rheinische Zeitung. They clearly reflect their direct participation in the revolutionary struggle and the tactics they used during the German and European revolution. Their articles in support of Italians, Poles, Czechs and other oppressed nations express their internationalist attitudes towards national liberation movements. The Appendices contain various documents relating to Marx and Engel’s practical work among the people, the foundation of the Neue Rheinische Zeitung, an organ of the revolutionary proletarian wing of German and European democracy.
