Volume 46 contains the correspondence between Marx and Engels and their letters to third persons from January 1880 to March 1883. In those last few years of Marx’s life, Engels bore the main burden of corresponding with working-class leaders all over the world. Cumulatively the letters give a good idea of how much Marx and Engels helped social democratic parties with their programme documents, strategies and tactics. The letters reflect the part they played in shaping the French Workers’ Party and give an idea of how closely Marx and Engels followed developments and changes in the labour movement in Britain and Ireland.
