Write for us

LW are now commissioning new books for the series. We are interested to hear from emerging as well as established scholars of Black British history who want to develop a proposal based on their research. The book’s focus must be on Black women activists in Britain, but can be based on an activist collective or group rather than an individual. Some editorial support can be offered to develop proposals.

LW acknowledges that one of the reasons for the lack of resources on Black history in Britain is because of the chronic underfunding of this area of research in the academy. To counter this, we have made bursaries are available for writers who do not have a permanent academic position or who would be otherwise unable to write for us. Please get in touch with our books editor if you have any questions or would like to discuss your eligibility in confidence: jumanah[at]lwbooks.co.uk.

We also acknowledge that institutional racism and discrimination have prevented more Black people from progressing in academic careers in history at higher education level, leading to lower rates of publishing and fewer Black professors, especially Black women professors. We therefore particularly welcome proposals from Black researchers.

To discuss your proposal, contact the books editor jumanah[at]lwbooks.co.uk. Alternatively, submissions can be made via our online submissions portal here.
